In 2000, Lotus introduced the Exige — a hardtop version of the Elise with the 177 bhp engine from the 340R; as well as different front and rear body "clamshells", larger wheels, and a rear wing. It is based on the Lotus Exige S, and thus has the same Toyota 2ZZ-GE with VVTL-i, Eaton M62 Roots-type supercharger and intercooled inline-four engine. The Lotus Elise continues to offer the 2ZZ-GE ... The 2ZZ-GE is being hailed as Toyota's (and Yamaha's) masterpiece to rival the high spirited Honda engines. I say the hell to that. Toyota has always excelled at turbocharged performance, and even without a turbo, they always made it easy enough for enthusiasts to tinker with aftermarket forced induction. The basic layout and function is the same but many things have been added, changed, or tweaked. The core of the system is a Rotrex C30-94 centrifugal style supercharger that is easily capable of 400 hp with adiabatic efficiency around 76-80%. Normal superchargers like Roots style run 40-50% and are prone to heat soak. Lotus Exige S2 2ZZ Toyota swapped with a Honda K20a2 rebuilded with forged internals and camshaft Toda A2, Intake manifold ... 2zzge Lotus Supercharger first running.
